Electric Substation Update

The new substation is now complete and providing all of the power to our customers. The utility has also transferred generator control to the new substation and the engines are warm and in standby mode should they be needed. With the new substation we can now provide twice the power of our old station for those long hot summer days. We have already recently reached a peak level that would make it necessary to operate our generators to help with load and cool the aging transformer in our old substation. The generators will no longer be needed for this purpose, reducing the utilities summer fuel cost.

The next major portion of the project will be to make the generators auto starting. Once this is complete the generator control will wait for for a couple of minutes to make sure the outage is not just a routine switching or maintenance issue. The generator controls will them perform a series of equipment and distribution diagnostics routines to determine that the generators are safe to start. Once this is accomplished the generators will auto start and provide power to our customers. Provided all of the safety checks are satisfactory the total outage time will be less than 5 minutes.
